Art on the River will be a good time
Apr 16, 2013 |
Art on the River will return to the banks of the Black River in downtown Port Huron on June 8 and June 9. Citizens for a Vibrant Community will present this art and music festival for the third year.
The party starts June 8 with the morning arrival of the Traveling Michigan Vietnam Veterans Memorial. A 9:30 a.m. memorial ceremony will feature state Sen. Phil Pavlov and Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp. Several veterans group leaders from throughout the area also will speak. The St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard will perform a memorial gun salute.
Music will be performed at two stages — the Lake Bonisteel Music Association acoustic stage at Heritage Park and the main stage in the West Quay Street parking lot. The stages will feature acoustic, rock, easy listening, big band and blues music among other forms.
National touring band Steepwater will perform at 9 p.m. June 8 on the main stage.
There will be several art and music workshops being held throughout the two-day event. Local art incubator Studio 1219 will hold hands-on art workshops along with many others. Check the Art on the River Facebook page for scheduling closer to the event: www.facebook.com/artontheriver.
Art on the River also features many fine artists and crafters with many types of arts and crafts for people to buy.
Mark your calendars now.
